“Fine Tooth: The Art of Dental Adornment” – RUBY Projects at the Pablo Cardoza Gallery
RUBY Projects and Pablo Cardoza Gallery are proud to collaboratively present “Fine Tooth: The Art of Dental Adornment” , an innovative exhibition opening May 17th, 2024 through June 30th, 2024. This exhibition redefines the boundaries between traditional and contemporary art forms, exploring the intricate nexus of dentistry and art through the dazzling world of dental decoration.
Fine Tooth transforms Pablo Cardoza Gallery into an arena where ancient practices meet modern aesthetics in dental adornment. Visitors will journey through time, from the use of precious metals in ancient dental practices to the stylish statements made by modern-day grills. The exhibition features an array of artistic expressions including sculptures that honor ancient traditions, photography that captures the vibrancy of grill culture, and unique jewelry pieces inspired by orthodontic appliances which highlight the transition of braces and aligners from functional devices to ornate artworks.
In its first of 5 exhibitions exploring adornment in medical fields and fine art, Fine Tooth showcases a diverse lineup of artists from around the globe, each contributing their perspective on the cultural significance and aesthetic evolution of dental adornments. These works encourage visitors to contemplate the transformative power of these interventions, which have evolved from mere aesthetic enhancements to powerful expressions of personal and social identity. This conversation extends to challenge and expand the conventional definitions of both “fine art” and “jewelry,” sparking dialogue about beauty standards, status symbols, and the role of adornment in contemporary society.
As guests meander through the gallery space, they are invited to interact with the artworks, allowing the gleam of gold grills and the intricacy of orthodontic patterns to inspire thoughts about self-discovery and expression. Each piece serves not only as a testament to individual creativity but also as a mirror reflecting broader human experiences and cultural narratives.”
