From the organizers:
“San Anto Zine Fest, a free festival of self-published Arts and Literature will take place December 9th, 10:00 am- 4:30 pm at the Central Library. The festival returns for the third year in partnership with the San Antonio Public Library. This event will feature over 100 exhibitors of comics, poetry, personal stories, fiction, and art zines. This year it welcomes local, Texas-based, and national exhibitors. The festival will feature hands-on activities to promote creativity and literacy in the city, including zine and comic-making workshops. The event will also host the release of the Big Read Zine, a free, anthology of city-wide contributors.
About San Anto Zine Fest
San Anto Zine Fest (SAZF) is organized by Yanaguana-based Latina zinesters who are dedicated to prioritizing queer and BIPOC independently-published media to grow community and creativity in Texas and beyond. Our collective of organizers met at zine festivals in Los Angeles, Houston, and Austin, and we all saw a need for a zine fest in San Antonio. Since 2017, we have been organizing and curating SAZF. In 2017, we had our first fest at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center’s Galeria Guadalupe. In 2018 and 2019 we were hosted by The San Antonio Central Library in partnership with The San Antonio Latino Collection and Resource Center. In 2020 we hosted a “Snail Mail” zine fest in which we created a mail-order catalog of local and global zinesters to make the fest accessible during the early days of the pandemic. This year in 2023, our fest returns in partnership with the San Antonio Central Library, and we look forward to continuing this annual event.”
