From Echo Gallery:
“Echo Gallery partners Linda Haddock and John Sone announce the grand opening of the Echo Gallery Sculpture Garden in Blanco on December 10th at 11:00 am. The public is invited to the event, which will feature guest of honor, Mayor Rachel Lumpee, mayor of Blanco. Also present will be the two sculptors, Peter Mangan and Cat Quintanilla, whose work comprises the garden’s opening exhibit entitled “Echoes of Nature”. Peter has seen success as an artist on both the East and West USA coasts, but is a Texas creature at heart. He says: “Living and working in Texas affects the artwork I create. The people, nature, and landscape are unique and filter into what I create. Planning and intuition combine to make sculptures that speak to others. The struggle with ideas, materials, and tools is always a challenge. The reward is to bring something original into the world and see how people respond. Metals and glass are my primary media (along with the numerous limestone rocks found on my property). The solid metal is a contrast to the transparent glass. Old and new techniques are used, from laser-jet metal cutting to medieval glass painting methods. I have been a self-employed artist for 35 years. My artwork has been shown and collected in the U.S.A., Europe, and Japan.” Cat Quintanilla, aka Stone Carver Cat, is a native to Austin Texas but of deep Mexican roots. She says, “I create art in my studios that are in both central Texas and Guanajuato, México. My ever-evolving works of interpretive abstractions and extractions are inspired by my life in both places and by the natural, cultural and historical contexts of each. My visual medium is primarily 3-D and my stone carvings range from the tiniest personal sculptures to the many monumental sized public pieces around Texas. My goal continues to be bringing joy, delight and surprise to those that take a moment to engage with the art I create.” The gallery is located on the far south side of Blanco at 1725 S. US Highway 281.”
