From Art Center Waco:
“The philosophy of perspectivism holds that we tend to bring our own established, automatic and persistent way of looking at the world with any visual encounter. The upcoming exhibition at Art Center Waco provides viewers an opportunity to be surprised by their own interpretation of what they see in the art that is presented. Perspectivism is a show of new art by Jack Bowers and a review of his older works. Perspectivism opens September 1, 2022 and will run through November 5, 2022. “Jack Bowers is an award-winning artist, and his work has been featured in galleries and shows across the country and internationally. His Perspectivism show speaks to how visitors see the work of art that’s in front of us, but also challenges us to think about how our individual perspectives shape our daily lives,” said Art Center Waco Board President Jeremy Vickers. “I’m excited we’re bringing such a unique show to our Waco audience. It’s one you won’t want to miss.” After years creating, studying, and teaching in California, Jack Bowers is now based in Waco. His Perspectivism show contains a variety of paintings and sculptures, showcasing new pieces and highlights of his past work. “Jack has said that he hopes Perspectivism will challenge that constant voice in our heads that keeps us seeing things the same way we always have. It’s fun to imagine what that type of shift in thinking could do for our art in Waco and for our community as a whole,” said Doug McDurham, CEO of Art Center Waco. “Waco is growing and developing, and I want art to be a key part of that growth. Bringing Jack Bowers’ show to Waco is the next step in that and is an opportunity for people to engage with our growing art scene.” Jack Bowers Perspectivism exhibit will open on September 1, 2022, with an artist reception from 6 – 8 p.m. The exhibition will be on display through November 5, 2022. Art Center Waco is at 701 S 8 th St., and the gallery is open to viewing, free to the public, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. About Jack Bowers Jack began working in clay with his grandmother in early grade school. That got him hooked on making art and led him to many art teachers including sculpture classes with Octavio Medellin in Dallas in the early 70s and on to an MFA with honors from San Francisco Art Institute in 1984. These days he is focused on making work that gets to the nature of the human condition and how our own way of looking tends to shape what we see in the world.
