From the Banton:
“Melissa explores the conflictual duality of American life. On one hand is continued senseless gun violence, and on the other is the desire we all share for our children (young and adult) to grow up safely and carefree. Made from sheet brass, a drill, and a saw — it speaks to how simple it should be to make the second point a reality. It calls for each of us to keep fighting, marching, and raising our voices until it is actualized.
Melissa Lynn Chapman (“Mel”) is a service and systems designer by day and metalsmith by night. A former full-time jewelrymaker, she now creates metal sculptures, baby mobiles, and kinetic yard hangings inspired by the simplicity of raw materials and the playfulness of symmetry and balance.”
