From the Moncrief Cancer Institute:
“Moncrief Cancer Institute in partnership with Texas Christian University (TCU) presents A Place For You & Me, a two-person exhibition featuring artists Lauren Walker and Enrique Nevárez. A Place For You & Me will be on view at Moncrief Cancer Center from May 26-August 31, 2022.
A Place for You & Me features work from TCU MFA artists Lauren Walker and Enrique Nevárez. In their collaborative exhibition, both artists highlight their interior spaces as a refuge, a place for personal growth and identity to flourish. They strive to use their practice as a tool to be able to preserve moments of intimacy that happen within private spaces. For Enrique, this intimacy lies in the demonstration of nurturing acts between family members and his work often focuses directly on the figure. Whereas for Lauren, the significance of space is recorded in what people leave behind or how they personalize the places they live in. The idea of a ‘shared space’ and ‘making a home’ is important in these works, for the artists and the loved ones they live with in these spaces.
Lauren and Enrique both share a love of materiality in their work. Working from personal photographs of familial, domestic spaces, they navigate this through the use of painting, ceramics, glitter, resin, and other craft materials.
Lauren Walker is a Fort Worth native. While born and raised here, she spent 4 years in Nacogdoches, TX receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from Stephen F. Austin State University. She is currently a graduate student earning her Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art at TCU in Fort Worth, TX.
Enrique Nevárez grew up in the DFW area, in Dallas, TX. Enrique is currently a graduate student earning their Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art at TCU in Fort Worth, TX. They received their Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Texas at Arlington.”
