From Bosque Gallery:
“Come by the Bosque Gallery in person through Dec. 15 to see artist Josefina Barassi’s “Pandemic Journal” display – an embroidered patchwork and quilted documentary project of this very recent, yet historic time, which “happened to all of us” in the Cy-Fair community and the nation.
Using image-text and textiles as elements to narrate, Barassi said she combines texture-color-language to convey the core of an emotion, the “gut feeling” of a moment in history. The part of the project exhibited in the Bosque Gallery intertwines events related to the pandemic and its effect on society with important social/political moments during 2021.
“I am fascinated by how a table phrase, a post on a social network, or a quote from a newspaper article can illustrate ‘beliefs,” explains Barassi. “I want to highlight the direct relationship between thoughts, feelings and actions with my work in an attempt to raise awareness of the importance of being honest about our own subjectivities, and by doing so, be more empathetic with others who might think differently.””
