Curated by Jerome Harris, Organized by Joshua Duttweiler, Design by Graphic Design students at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
From Texas A&M-Corpus Christi:
“Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) department of Graphic Design presents the exhibition, As, Not For: Dethroning Our Absolutes, an incomplete historical survey of work created by African American graphic designers over the last century. In collaboration with curator Jerome Harris, As, Not For: Juntos Desmantelando is a new companion exhibition that highlights the missing Latinx experiences and influence throughout graphic design history based on the research by TAMUCC graphic design students.
Both exhibitions will be simultaneously installed on the exterior of the Downtown TAMUCC Building at 401 Lomax St, Corpus Christi, Texas from November 5 to 18, 2021. The opening is in coordination with the Downtown Corpus Christi ArtWalk event on Friday, November 5, 2021 which begins at 5:30pm. The TAMUCC edition of As, Not For is organized by Assistant Professor of Art, Joshua Duttweiler.
Using As, Not For as a template for investigation and exhibition, the TAMUCC students in Historical Perspectives conducted research about influential Latinx designers and now present this new research in this exhibition. With the assistance of Jerome Harris, the students will design and install the corresponding exhibitions as well as all marketing materials. TAMUCC joins the ranks of As, Not For hosting institutions that includes Rhode Island School of Design, Washington University, University of Illinois and many more. The corresponding exhibition, As, Not For: Juntos Desmantelandos is the first time the Latinx design history has been considered alongside the original works. “
