September 18 - 25, 2021
From the organizers:
“Remade/Readymade/Powerade presents contemporary contemplations in abstraction by four MFA candidates from the University of North Texas. Joshua Steven Bryant, Victoria Gonzales, Erika Jaeggli, and Claire Kennedy work in collaboration to create visual engagement between their works. Using paint, thread, found objects, and craft materials, these artists make associations to the long history of pictorial painting, while also questioning the future of painting as a genre. In Joshua’s work, found furniture objects become reflections on queer identity and domesticity. In Victoria’s work, paint and thread interact to create layered compositions that transcend everyday observations. In Erika’s work, canvas, fabric, paint, and other materials blend together to immerse the viewer in a fluid meditation on caves, wombs, and emergence. In Claire’s work, childlike craft materials accumulate on precarious surfaces, celebrating the haphazard nature of life. Each artist will present two new works in a temporary space provided by Herschel Weisfeld, asking viewers to navigate varying perspectives on abstraction in the contemporary.”
