From Brick:
“Join Brick in a solo exhibition of artist Yoko Misu. Yoko Misu likes creating art that makes viewers and herself smile. Through her art, she expresses a celebration of life with a little touch of humor.
Her current works are a series of feline images. The inspiration comes from her joyful life with two cats. She feels she can learn the Buddhist philosophy of mindful living from her feline
companions.
She develops compositions from her daily casual drawings and eclectic inspirations; such as Japanese Ukiyo-e prints and prehistoric cave paintings of animals.
The technique she employs is a combination of printmaking (drypoint and stenciling) and mixed media on paper. Recently she has also been creating small terracotta sculptures of cats riding on clouds. She started making these statues in memory of the deceased cats of her past. This is also a means of coming to the reality of the future death of her current feline companions. The imagery of riding clouds is also inspired by Buddhist arts of many cultures.
