From K Space Contemporary:
“Woods Unknown an exhibition of collaborative works by painter Katarina Janečková Walshe and photographer Malone. The artists, who both currently reside in Corpus Christi, Texas, recently returned from Slovakia, Janečková’s home, where they presented their first exhibition together. Woods Unknown is divided in two parts – Corpus Christi and Slovakia. Before and After. What WAS, and what IS, creating the space for what COULD BE.
Katarína (a European living in Corpus Christi) and Malone (a native Texan) met fishing – one with a harpoon and the other with a fishing rod. Upon discovering one another‘s artwork, it became inevitable that they would form a creative alliance.
For the last two years, Malone has focused his photography on examining and documenting the seemingly mundane qualities of life around him in Corpus Christi. Katarina, new to Texas and searching for her painterly relationship to her new surroundings, became inspired by Malone’s view of the city and its ever-changing light. The two artists have a similar tendency to find something poetic and beautiful in emptiness. Malone captures an observation without interfering. Katarina’s vivid and spontaneous painting complements his silent shots but does not overpower them. In Woods Unknown, Malone and Katarina merge their differing perspectives, styles and media to create works of art that express their notions of Corpus Christi and Slovakia.
Woods Unknown is on display August 6 – September 17, 2021, FMI visit: www.kspacecontemporary.org.”
