From the Ellen Noël Art Museum:
“Ceramic artists have been working steadily contribute to the art world for centuries. From prehistoric pottery to ancient Greece, from the rise of porcelain in Asia and Europe to the Arts and Crafts movement in England and the U.S., ceramic traditions have long fascinated many artists and have infiltrated their practices. But what happens when these ideas are transformed, manipulated and demystified and perhaps more worthy of a clarified position within the wider history of sculpture?
Combining the look and feel of a classically inspired atelier and infused with the cross-cultural look at parts of the 21st century, Daiken Asakawa and Chris Stanley explore several themes as they create a ceramic journey through what they refer to as Never Wonderland.
Asakawa is an Assistant Professor of Art at Odessa College. He has a BA in Art from the University of Texas Permian Basin. He also has an MFA in Art from Washington State University.
Stanley is an Associate Professor of Art at the University of Texas Permian Basin. He has a BS in Secondary English Education and a BFA in design with an emphasis in ceramics from the University of Kansas. He also has an MFA in Art from Washington State University.”
