From Webb Gallery:
“Sounds like a good band name.
It also lends that air of mystery to what might be behind the door.
Mr. Splitfoot was the entity to whom the legendary Victorian mediums, the Fox Sisters allegedly communicated with from the spirit world.
Ghost Notes have a variety of specific musical definitions, but primarily stand for a musical note with only rhythmic value.
In this exhibit our band members are Tim Kerr, Heather Sundquist Hall, and Adam Young. Each are expressive visual artists sharing a message through paintings.
Tim Kerr’s work in the exhibit starts with his illustrations from a book by Michael Corcoran and published by Texas A&M University Press last year, Ghost Notes: Pioneering Spirits of Texas Music. It was Tim’s love of music, portraits, and little known quotes by or tidbits about his subjects, which lead Michael Corcoran to ask Tim Kerr to do the illustrations for his book. Webb Gallery will show these pieces along with some other recent work by Tim with a focus on his portraits of authors and musicians.
Heather Sundquist Hall’s work in this exhibit brings in the bass line with her delicate gouache on paper pieces documenting the surreal within our worlds and culture set in beautiful landscapes. She illustrates the lost of our culture by repurposing it in a new setting, thus rewriting the storyline into a new dream.
Adam Young definitely adds the rhythm of the xylophone to the band. His work starts with his love for words and quotes. Then he adds words images to float on beautiful wood, which tell a story through allegory and imagery. His work reminds us of the secret code needed to find joy and goodness in the world.
The Fox Sister mediums were debunked along the way, but Mr. Splitfoot will be forever be searched after the give the answers to the spiritual world.
Our current exhibit, Mr. Splitfoot and the Ghost Notes represent a spiritual band we have formed for the run of this exhibit to provide the answers and give the viewer the codes to live a life of delicate beauty and wisdom through paintings.
