JOEY BROCK AND KELSEY ANNE HEIMERMAN: TRUE COLORS

“On Thursday, May 27, 2021, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., The Janette Kennedy Gallery will host an opening reception for True Colors, a joint portraiture exhibition by Joey Brock and Kelsey Anne Heimerman; this is also a celebration of the gallery’s new home in The Artist Quarter at South Side on Lamar. For the past few years these celebrated artists have studied portraiture separately and together. Brock’s subjects highlight members of our community that are discriminated against and marginalized while Heimerman draws from our ancient past and connects it to the present moment of being globally connected. Together, they both speak a message of unification and understanding between people physically, mentally and spiritually.

Brock uses multimedia, high quality materials to cut, sew, paint and draw his images together. His thoughtful construction of the works remains an important part of the process on how images are connected together and literally relates to his conceptual ideas of misfit, luxury, odd and new pieces coming together to create a beautiful work of art. About Kelsey Anne Heimerman
Heimerman is foremost an oil painter who also works in digital media. Her work studies the history of ancient culture and mythology where she finds similar and unique threads to inspire her imagery. She draws inspiration about human psychology, and experience from living in the technology era where she will bend, distort, stretch, pixilate and facial map her portraits to represent where we are now.
