From Ivester Contemporary:
“Ivester Contemporary is pleased to present a new series of experimental works by Steef Crombach called FOaMO. Crombach reimagines traditional craft techniques through her innovative use of expanding foam and a fabric mold making process she developed, to create abstracted paintings and representational balloon like soft-sculptures of roadkill. Crombach’s use of unexpected shape, color and pattern is exciting and approachable, but upon closer inspection, her work reveals feelings of alienation and intends to evoke a broader perspective of our daily reality. The combination of European classical painting with depictions of roadkill indicates the artist’s own sense of estrangement living in Austin and longing for her home country of The Netherlands. Crombach treats daily iconography as clues to how we think and move, and she offers a new twist on what is weird in Austin.
A reception will be held for this exhibition on June 12th.”
