May 8 - June 19, 2021
From the organizers:
“The Show Must Go On! is an open call, juried art show Saturday, May 8, 2021, 7-10 PM (CLOSING SHOW JUNE 19, 7-10 PM) at the Kallinen Art Gallery at 511 Broadway Street, Houston, Texas 77012. This show is inspired by the epidemic, an event of such proportions not seen in America since the Spanish Flu of 1917. For SAFETY only FULLY VACCINATED, masked may attend.
The psychology of the epidemic is pervasive and deep. It brings about thoughts of one’s own existence. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event. There is much hope, blame, fear, sadness, helplessness…the whole gamut of human emotions. The artists can and will use these emotions to produce works reflective of these times. Any visual media is accepted-painting, sculpture, video, performance art. Up to 3 pieces per artist are allowed. Jurors will choose 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. There is no fee to enter. There is a 50/50 split with the gallery on any sales.
In order that The Show Must Go On! will certainly occur, unlike many current cancelled art events, it has several epidemic-inspired features. Curator/producer Randall Kallinen has made arrangements that in the event of his death or incapacitation artist/curator John Paul Hartman will ensure the show will go on. In the event of John Paul Harmon’s demise or incapacitation, artist Solomon Kane will take up the reins. Both Hartman and Kane have been instructed that they shall name successors should it be necessary in order that the show go on. Kallinen has made arrangements in his Last Will and Testament to this effect.
ART DROPOFF is May 1, 2021 from 10 AM to 4 PM. ART PICKUP is Sunday, June 20, 2021 from 10 AM to 2 PM. There wil be a CLOSING SHOW June 19, 2021 from 7 PM to 10 PM.
Furthermore, since the original July 11, 2020 date needed to be rescheduled due to the state of the pandemic art pieces are on display in the DISCUSSION section of this FB event page (look below). WE SHALL ADD ART AS ARTISTS SUBMIT PHOTOS.
