From Presa House Gallery:
“Wendy Yamilett is an Austin-based multidisciplinary figurative artist and a graduate of the University of North Texas in Denton. A first-generation American of Honduran descent, her artwork focuses on the diversity of the human experience. In Present Tense, Yamilett uses various subjects in her paintings, mostly family and friends she photographs to capture the individual uniqueness, representing the varying racial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Yamilett also frequently uses herself as the central figure to reference her personal experiences in finding a sense of place while assimilating within American society. Yamilett is a recent recipient of the Brown State of Mind Residency at the Museum of Human Achievement, Austin, Texas, and was awarded fourth runner-up in the 2020 Third Coast National Biennial at K Space Contemporary in Corpus Christi, Texas.”
