Barbara Felix: The Glorious Way She Moves – Black Venus

“The Carver Cultural Center presents “The Glorious Way She Moves – Black Venus,” new contemporary portraits by Barbara Felix, beginning Friday, January 22, 2021. This new body of work showcases multi-layered large scale expressive images of Black women from San Antonio. Felix’s work explores the fullness and depth of the female form, from youthful innocence to glorious maturity. Multiple illustrations from video stills capture the exuberance and individuality of each celebrated muse and her authentic movement. The dynamic works share Felix’s fascination with dance while also inviting viewers to contemplate societal perceptions of race and beauty.
