From the Irving Arts Center:
“Join us for an evening with award-winning children’s book author and illustrator, Yuyi Morales. Morales, born in Xalapa, Mexico in 1968, is a six-time recipient of the prestigious Pura Belpré Award and the first Latina to receive a Caldecott Honor for her book, Viva Frida in 2015. Morales’ work is heavily influenced by her upbringing in Mexico and gives poignant insight from an immigrant’s perspective, speaking to the power of heritage, imagination and hope.
Yuyi Morales: Soñadora, an exhibition organized by the National Center for Illustrated Children’s Literature, is currently on display in the Irving Arts Center’s Main Gallery. Featuring original artwork from Dreamers (2018) and thirteen other titles, the exhibit includes sketches, acrylic paintings on paper and mixed media digital collages.
Joining Yuyi Morales will be Marcie Inman, Irving Arts Center’s Director of Exhibitions & Educational Programs.
Q & A will follow the talk.”
