A two-person exhibition featuring work by Carly Allen-Martin & Lucrecia Waggoner.
From the gallery:
“Laura Rathe Fine Art announces multi-media duo exhibition, Untethered, featuring new work by Texas-based artists Carly Allen Martin and Lucrecia Waggoner. LRFA will be hosting the opening reception on Saturday, October 24th from 6:00-9:00pm at their 2707 Colquitt Street gallery. Inspired by feelings of liberation, Carly Allen Martin’s work embraces the lack of control in our current environment, allowing her to abandon the pursuit of perfection and create without censorship. The texture and natural tone of linen act as an invitation to untether from the binding forces present in our world today. For Carly, this is a pursuit of letting go and stripping down to the purest expression of the work. Exploring the disparity between containment and connection, Lucrecia’s newest body of work touches on ideas of naturalism in an industrial world, choosing love above all else and how we need to become united, rather than contained. Although the work conveys a modern message, it has been visually inspired by harmony and balance, a timeless concept consistent through Waggoners’ work, due to her inspiration and training with traditional Asian art. The work in the new collection was not created with any particular message or theme at its conception, but manifested from the artist’s subconscious and later reinterpreted to carry out Waggoners’ thoughts and ideas. In this joint exhibition, both artists embrace the uncertainty of change and present entirely new bodies of work free of constraint, division, and the old status-quo.
