From the gallery:
“CAMIBAart Gallery is pleased to present Daydreams, the most recent series of artworks by Dallas based artist Charlotte Smith. With Daydreams, Smith continues to explore and push the physical boundaries of paint as an artistic medium. And while there are all the telltale signs to visually identify the artworks as authentically hers, Smith has once again managed created something fresh and enticing.
Meditative and engaging and a bit like a chameleon, each artwork is versatile and can take on the vibe of the environment around it, as well as reflect the mood of the viewer. One viewer may find an artwork exhilarating, like blowing snow drifts on the Rocky Mountains just after a blizzard, yet another viewer may think the same artwork is calming like the slow repetitive crash of waves on the beach at dusk. This is the power of Smith’s magic – her artworks can become the embodiment of our daydreams. We invite you to make an appointment, enter the realm of daydreams and experience these artworks in person.
Charlotte Smith’s Daydreams is on view at CAMIBAart Gallery by appointment from Saturday September 19th through Saturday October 17th. To make an appointment, use the galleries online scheduling tool here:
To schedule a time that is not on the scheduling tool, call 512-937-5921 or email [email protected] and we will do our best make accommodations. Gallery Director Troy Campa will host a virtual exhibit walk through on Saturday October 3rd; check the gallery website for details.
About the Artist:
Born in Sherman, TX, Charlotte Smith’s artistic practice has culminated in 20 plus years of exploration into pure process-driven abstraction. Over the course of her career, Smith has constantly pushed the physical boundaries of painting, through the arduous building and layering of drips, drops and strokes.
Charlotte Smith received her MFA from the University of North Texas in 1999 and since then has had more than thirty solo exhibitions and has been selected for more than twenty juried exhibitions, often receiving awards. Firmly entrenched in Texas Art History, Charlotte Smith has been included in numerous publications, including: Global Corporate Collections (2015); Texas Abstract (2014); The State of the Art: Contemporary Artists in Texas (2012); and Texas Artists Today (2010). Her work can be found in the collections of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School; the Museum of Southeast Texas; the South Texas Institute for the Arts; Kendra Scott corporate collection (at corporate headquarters and stores in Austin & New Orleans); Neiman Marcus stores nation-wide; as well as many additional significant collections, both private and corporate, throughout the country.”
In her own words:
“Painting and making art is a meditative activity for me. Some of these repetitive painting processes include dripping, blowing, layering and piling. Many pieces combine all of these techniques. Playing with paint and other materials is more interesting to me than creating images. My recent paintings and installations continue my exploration of materials, shapes and painting processes.”
