From the gallery:
“The Wright Gallery in the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University celebrates the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage in the United States with a new exhibit honoring the work of its women faculty members. The exhibition, entitled Persist Resist Coexist: Works by Women Faculty in the College of Architecture, marks a milestone election year held in the midst of current social and political turmoil. The exhibit features works by Krista Steinke, Mayet Andreassen, Felice House, Jinsel Hwaryoung Seo, Courtney Starrett, Weiling He, Rebecca Pugh, Jane Winslow, Laurie Lisonbee, and former Texas A&M faculty, Mary Saslow and Karen Hillier. The show runs August 25 through mid October and is free and open to the public. Due to the pandemic, entry volume is limited to allow for social distancing and masks are required. Originally, the show was intended to celebrate just the 100 years of women’s suffrage in the U.S., but with COVID-19, the murder of George Floyd, military and police violence against protestors, climate change, and the general alarming state of the world, the consensus was to to expand themes beyond women’s right to vote. The exhibit highlights the diverse backgrounds and research interests among participating faculty and includes painting, drawing, digital and analog photography, graphic design, sculpture and interdisciplinary video. Through digital programming and engagement on the Wright Gallery’s website and social media, the exhibit acknowledges the impact of women artists and designers who provide inspiration for each of the participating faculty members.
Located in the Langford Architecture Building A, the Wright Gallery is open weekdays 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. To learn more about the Wright Gallery, please contact the Wright Gallery Curator, Rebecca Pugh at [email protected] or visit http://bit.ly/2K1bBMl.”
