A solo exhibition of mail art from Dallas-based Dennis Gonzalez.
From the gallery:
“A solo show by acclaimed musician, composer, writer, and visual artist, Dennis Gonzalez. He will show a selection of mail art postcards he has created over the last thirty years while touring around the world.
Gonzalez has recorded fifty jazz albums, and runs his own label, Daagnim Records, here in Dallas. He has performed in festivals, concerts, workshops, and television and radio programs throughout Asia, Europe, Central America, Cuba and the Dominican Republic, and in most major American cities for the past forty-two years. His jazz trio Yells at Eels, with sons Aaron and Stefan, is celebrating 20 years of existence.
In addition, Gonzalez works as a renowned visual artist with exhibits internationally, beginning in 1978, and is an accomplished writer, with two books to his credit: “Xí” and “Cú”, both bilingual editions of his travel poems.
A selection from his series of postcards, which numbers at one hundred twenty-five, will be on view. They feature ephemera from locales as diverse as Kathmandu, Warsaw, Budapest, Havana, and Paris, and include new works created last fall in Dallas.”
