March 2 - April 4, 2020
The Gallery at UTA is pleased to present Cross Currents, an exhibition featuring three Texas artists, Melinda Laszczynski (Houston), Chris Powell (Fort Worth), and Fred Spaulding (Santa Fe, NM/Arlington) that will be on view at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Curated by Art and Art History Professor Nicholas Wood, the common trait that connects these three interdisciplinary artists is a willingness to experiment with a variety of materials and processes. Wood notes that “despite educational and career backgrounds strongly focused in single media-specific histories and reference, each artist shares a desire and an evident inquisitive nature to use and explore multiple media with diverse material manipulations that have enriched and expanded their creative process.”
In association with the exhibition, the artists will discuss their work in individual hour-long gallery talks starting at 12:30 pm in The Gallery at UTA. Melinda Laszczysnski will speak on Thursday, March 5 and Chris Powell and Fred Spaulding will speak on Wednesday, March 18. There also will be a reception on Friday, March 6 from 5:30 to 8 pm with brief remarks by the artists beginning at 6:30 pm. The exhibition, reception, and talks are free and open to the public.
Gallery hours are 10 am until 5 pm Monday through Friday and noon until 5 pm on Saturday. The Gallery is located in the Fine Art Building, room 169, at 502 S. Cooper Street, Arlington, TX. For more information, contact Benito Huerta or Patricia Healy (817) 272-5658 or www.uta.edu/gallery.
