February 24 - April 13, 2020
2020) The 17th annual Joyce Elaine Grant Exhibition opens in the East and West Galleries of the School of Visual Arts at Texas Woman’s University, Denton, Texas, on Monday, February 24, 2020. The exhibition this year was curated by Lisa Sutcliffe who is currently the Curator of Photography and Media Arts at The Milwaukee Art Museum. The exhibition features 37 artists from across the United States with over 50 pieces selected for viewing through April 13, 2020. “It is our goal at TWU to bring industry professionals, such as our esteemed juror, to directly interact with students through curated programming which reaches beyond the local, to include emerging to established artists of national scope.” This year’s exhibition winner Anna Grevenitis, of Brooklyn, New York, starts a visual conversation about her daughter who has Down syndrome by focusing on capturing everyday moments in a series titled REGARD.
The prestigious exhibition is named in memory of TWU Emeritus Professor Susan Kae Grant’s mother Joyce Elaine Grant, in honor of whom an endowment was created by TWU Alumnae Christine Shank, Kelli Connell, and the Photographic Arts Coalition to aid TWU students financially. Proceeds from this event support photography scholarships in the Department of Visual Arts at TWU. The opening reception will be on Thursday, February 27, 2020, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Juror’s Lecture at 5:30 pm, and is open to the public.
