Portraits Meet Imagination. Hancock’s expressive portraits show the beauty of the human face and its many emotions. Strength, desire, defiance: all pierce the eyes of women in her portraits, The Women – Curves of Emotion. They reveal inner emotions that society and culture prefer remain hidden, a glimpse into a chance moment. “That little snap of time is what I think defines the real person.” Each face leads to a story of struggle, complicated by life.
A self-taught pastelist, Hancock’s realistic drawing merges into an impressionistic painting. “The rich, strong colors I saw in other countries and the variety of skin tones influence every reach into my pastel tray.” She paints from life and photo references. “Sometimes a model inspires and her image stays in the back of my mind, playing and wandering around, until how I want to present her all comes together.”
