February 22 - March 28, 2020
Laura Rathe Fine Art announces an upcoming solo exhibition featuring the work of renowned artist duo, Stallman Studio. LRFA will be hosting the opening reception on Saturday, February 22nd from 6-9pm at their 2707 Colquitt Street Gallery.
Artists Stephen Strum and Jason Hallman, working jointly as Stallman Studio, merge talent and vision to redefine the traditional model of painting. Together, by combining painting and sculpture, the duo has pioneered a new technique, forming a body of work dubbed “Canvas on Edge”. In these groundbreaking works, hand cut canvas strips are meticulously twisted into dynamic compositions, each as unique as the organic cellular models that inspired them. While the duo’s craftsmanship is unmatched, their magnificent use of color is what steals the show, combining hues that flow naturally together to create incredibly soft, yet powerful gradients that undulate with the light. The cut edge of the canvas creates an elevated line drawing that never ceases or breaks, allowing the eye to explore in an almost hypnotic state. The end result is a kaleidoscope-like maze, equal part curve and color, that comes alive as the viewer ambulates.
In their newest body of work, the duo exhibits an unprecedented mastery of their technique, wherein the complexity and density of the wrapped canvas reaches an unprecedented level. Creating in tandem, the pair turns ordinary into extraordinary, finding success globally as their work continues to grow and evolve.
This solo exhibition will be on display through March 28th, 2020.
