In We: A Study, Francis continues to explore the politics of portraiture. He considers portraits to be a contract between artist and sitter, in which inherent power imbalance occurs. Guided by feminist thought (specifically Feminist critic Bell Hook), Francis “demands a realization of portraiture that facilitates the autonomy and agency toward redistributing the artist’s power.”
