January 16 - 20, 2020
Artist Endigo Weirdie unveils his works for the first time since losing everything two years ago in Hurricane Harvey. Weirdie went from having a home and workspace to carrying everything in three backpacks. Feeling deterred but not broken, Weirdie says he went into survival mode. “I lost everything. All of my art was destroyed. It’s taken me until now to recreate and come back with this series of work. It’s very personal to me.” Weirdie named the series, ‘Retrospective of a Retrograde’ because he says he felt like his life was spinning backward. “A retrograde happens 3 to 4 times a year. Its when the planet nearest the sun appears to move “backward” across the sky. It’s actually an optical illusion to the people viewing it from Earth. After Harvey, I had to say to myself, I am not going to take this as a hit. I had a son to raise. I had to let go, release all my anger and start over. Art literally saved me during this time period.”
On January 16th, the native Houstonian unveils his abstract art exhibit, Retrospective of a Retrograde at Winston Contemporary Art. The five-day series is part of WCA’s commitment to encouraging and supporting up and coming artists.
