December 14 - 9, 2019
“Designs of Life, a duo exhibition by Diana Kersey and Linda Rael. The exhibit celebrates the natural world and creativity through texture and color.
Diana Kersey’s highly textured and colorful ceramic public art can be seen throughout the city of San Antonio. “My studio work focuses on the way our urban environment disconnects us from the natural world. When we create a barrier between ourselves and nature, effects like climate change and environmental destruction are easier to ignore. For me, working with clay is a way of reconnecting with the earth itself.” explains Kersey. Linda Rael is a textile and mixed media artist living in Boerne, Texas. She creates art quilts and 3-D figures using hand dyed and printed fabrics. The fabrics are often recycled clothes and linens. Her art is earthy, yet whimsical in style, influenced by tribal art from all parts of the world. Kersey earned an MFA in ceramics from Washington State University in 1997, and a BFA in drawing from Texas Tech University in 1994. She serves on the faculty at Northwest Vista College and owns and operates Kersey Ceramics LLC. Rael holds a BA in Art with Metals and Art History majors. Post graduate work in Art Therapy with a Fiber Concentration.”
