“The Houston Art History Interview Project collects and makes accessible oral histories from significant members of the city’s art community, with an emphasis on those who’ve rarely had the opportunity to tell their stories. Recorded, produced, and edited by art historian Pete Gershon with the support of the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance, these videos capture straightforward documentation of artists, administrators, and patrons speaking about their own work and their own lives in their own words, with archival images and video added wherever possible and practical.
For this free event, Gershon presents highlights from videos collected during the project’s first year including a demonstration of its public interface on the web. A scanning and oral history station will be available on site for visitors who want to bring photographs and ephemera or share their own stories about the development and growth of Houston’s art community.
This project is funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.”
