“Zócalo Apartments is pleased to announce Input Output, Ronald Jones, and Theresa Escobedo have been selected as the winners of the first-ever Zócalo Artist-In-Residency program season.
In 2020, these artists will be awarded fully-funded housing in a brand new Zócalo apartment, a monthly materials stipend, and the freedom to create and display artworks designed to engage Zócalo residents and the surrounding Spring Branch neighborhood.
In celebration of the selected artist residents who were chosen by an expert panel of judges and a final public vote, Zócalo will kick off its inaugural year with the AiR Launch Party on November 16th, 2019 from 6-8 pm with an event showcasing the work of the programs’ seven semi-finalists including: Olaniyi Akindiya (Akirash), Colby Deal, Theresa Escobedo, Ronald Jones, Ahmed Tijay Mohammed, Input Output, and Charles Washington.
The event will take place at the Zócalo Clubhouse located at 8787 Hammerly Blvd. Houston, TX 77080. Attendees will have an opportunity to see artworks by the finalists, explore Zócalo’s communal spaces, engage with the artists, judges, residents, and mingle with the Houston art crowd. The lively event will feature complimentary light bites, drinks, and a live DJ set in-part sponsored by Topo Chico and St. Arnold Brewing Company, both of whom will be providing samplings of their products.
