November 8 - 17, 2019
“Self Proclaimed “Artivist” Rico Edwards unveils ” The Problems We Still Live With” a graphic series illustrating Black America, past and present will be on exhibit November 8th through November 17th. Although the vibrant, saturated palette Edwards uses gives the subject a lighthearted take, he successfully depicts the continuously harsh reality of black communities.
“This series represents the problems that Black People in America have not only historically faced, but still currently face. I feel that it is my responsibility not only as an artist but also as a Black Artist in America especially, to bring these issues to the forefront. Realistically, I want people to understand that this is not a game. These issues are not fairy tales, they’re not myths or urban legends. This is really happening. This has BEEN happening. To black people.
Domestically. Globally. We’re protesting, we’re documenting, we’re broadcasting these issues…and nothing is changing. Society doesn’t really seem to care. So more than anything, I want people who come to this exhibit to leave with an understanding. An understanding that racism, oppression, and micro-aggressions are real, it’s happening, and it is NOT ok.” says Edwards.”
