October 25 - November 21, 2019
“Each year, MECA invites members of the community to build an altar (Ofrenda) featuring photographs and personal belongings of their loved ones who have passed away. Inspired by Mexican tradition and culture, some of the altars also include the Cempasúchil (Mexican Marigold), whose golden petals and fragrant scent are believed to guide the dead from and on their way to the afterlife. Inspired by Nahua and Catholic blessing rituals, the altars will be blessed during this ceremony, with copal incense and holy water and prayers will be said for our ancestors who are memorialized in the constructed altars.”
