“The title of the show Bestiary refers to a compendium of beasts, recorded in books in the Middle Ages alongside illustrations. The notion of an encyclopedia of animals is an ancient one, predating a scientific worldview. Notably Aristotle wrote an Historia Animalium; later Roman authors would continue the tradition.”
