“A special exhibit created by Rev. Dr. Helen Boursier, a chaplain and artist who organized an art therapy program for immigrant mothers and children being held at Karnes Detention Center in 2015-2016. The art displayed in this special exhibit was created by the detained immigrant mothers and children as a way to process the trauma that they had experienced.
The balance of the exhibit consists of paintings, poems, and other works of art created in response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis along our southern border or other refugee crises around the world. These works will be part of a silent auction, the proceeds of which will benefit two organizations providing humanitarian assistance to asylum seekers and other immigrants: Team Brownsville and Interfaith Welcome Coalition of San Antonio.
Participating artists include Helen Boursier, Nubia Gala, Emily Fens, Paula Nguyen Luu, Del Azios, Rosario Azios, Alyssa Stebbing, Louis Luna Gonzalez, Sarah Castillo, Kristen Gunn, Sandra Cadena, Jenny Tudor Gray, Mike Head, Elva Alvarez, and Joanne Kendall. In addition, the poems of Elizabeth Quintal and Mely Martinez will be shared with attendees.”
