“Over the course of two decades, Ted Kincaid has systematically subverted the notion of an objective photographic record as his art plays between painting and photography. He has explored this discourse through multiple series, deftly riding the line between the construction of manufactured images bearing the aesthetic of straightforward camera work, and actual photographs buzzing with vibrant palettes and seemingly implausible, fantastical compositions.
This installation of photographs includes disparate images of nature and the human form. The selection of landscapes, seascapes and nudes continues Ted Kincaid’s investigation of the Aesthetic Movement, Romanticism, and the cultural development of homosexual identity in the 19th century. Kincaid blurs the line between historic and fictional narratives with photographs which are both real and “manufactured” inspired by artistic pioneers including Walt Whitman, Thomas Eakins and Herman Melville.”
