Sawyer Yards is accepting proposals for sculptures in Art Alley. Proposals are invited from individual artists, curators, collaborative teams, or small groups of artists. Art Alley has five concrete sculpture pads, (3) three 7’x5’6″ and (2) two 5’x5′. All pads are 6″ high and ground level (see diagram here). They are surrounded by gravel and are situated near the parking lot between the Rail Shed and murals, the Silos at Sawyer Yards, and the breezeway to Holler Brewing. Proposals must make use of at least 3 of the sculpture pads. Only one proposal will be selected.
Artwork must be anchored into the concrete pads unless alternative ways of installation are agreed upon. Materials should be able to withstand the elements outdoors for almost a year, however, time-based or ephemeral works will also be considered. In the case of utilizing alternative materials, proposals should consider and address any potential safety hazards or environmental effects. The pads are located in a highly visible and public area that occasionally sees heavy foot traffic which often includes families with children. As such, proposed works should be designed with safety in mind, and with no sharp edges or dangerous protrusions.
