Art & Social Practice MFA Program
The Art & Social Practice MFA program is housed within the Department of Art at SHSU. It is a dynamic and innovative program that merges artistic practice with community engagement. Through a combination of studio courses, seminars, workshops, and hands-on experiences, students gain a deep understanding of the role of art in fostering dialogue, promoting empathy, and sparking meaningful social change. The curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary collaborations, encouraging students to work across mediums and disciplines to address complex social issues.
One of the unique aspects of the program is its focus on community engagement. Students have the opportunity to work directly with community organizations, non-profits, and advocacy groups to lead creative projects. Whether it’s through organizing public art installations, facilitating workshops, or participating with grassroots movements, students learn how to harness the power of art to affect positive social change.
