The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (HCCC) has opened a call for its 2025-2026 Artist Residency Program.
For more than two decades, HCCC’s residency program has provided craft artists with time and space to develop their artistic practice. Current resident artists include Perata Bradley, Nela Garzón, Gabo Martinez, Preetika Rajgariah, and James Sterling Pitt, among others.
The residency is open to emerging, mid-career, and established artists working in any craft media, including wood, glass, metal, fiber, and clay. Additionally, through a partnership with the Houston Center for Photography, artists working at the intersection of craft and photography are encouraged to apply for the Interdisciplinary Craft + Photography (ICP) Artist Residency.
Eight to ten artists will be selected for residencies that last from three to twelve months. The ICP residency is a three-month commitment. Selected artists will receive a $1,000 monthly stipend and 24/7 access to a 200-square-foot studio. Ceramic artists will have access to two electric kilns located in an outdoor kiln shed. Artists will also have opportunities for cultural and professional development, exhibiting their work, and presenting their work through an artist talk or similar program. Artists are expected to have their studios open for at least two days each week as the public-facing aspect of the residency is an important part of the program.
The deadline to apply is February 1, 2025. Questions regarding the application requirements can be sent to [email protected]. Learn more about the residency program and apply via the HCCC website.
