Artpace San Antonio has named Regine Basha as the Guest Curator for its Fall 2025 International Artist-in-Residence program.
Since its establishment in 1995, Artpace has hosted international, national, and regional artists through its residency program. Though historically, the organization has held three residency seasons — spring, summer, and fall —, recently, it has eliminated the summer session.
Curator, cultural producer, and consultant Ms. Basha brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her work. She studied Studio Art and Art History at New York University and Concordia University Montreal and received her MA from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College. Throughout her career, she has spent time in Montreal, Los Angeles, and New York, where she was Director of Residences at Pioneer Works, Brooklyn.
From 2002 to 2008, she served as Adjunct Curator at Arthouse, now The Contemporary Austin. Also during that time, she co-founded Testsite and Fluent-Collaborative in 2003 with Laurence Miller. In 2012, Ms. Basha returned to Texas temporarily when she accepted the position of Executive Director at Artpace, however, she resigned after just a few months due to a medical issue. Even after leaving Texas, she has remained connected to the art scene throughout the state by working on independent projects.
Some of Ms. Basha’s notable Texas exhibitions include Daniel Bozhkov: Cantata for 12 Choirs and Several Salamanders; The Gospel of Lead: Jeremy Blake; Steve Roden + Stephen Vitiello at Lora Reynolds Gallery; Basim Magdy at Austin’s Okay Mountain; Julieta Aranda – You Gad No 9th of May! at Sala Diaz; Nina Katchadourian at Testsite; The Rules of Basketball Works by Paul Pfeiffer at the Blanton Museum of Art; Seedlings at Dallas Contemporary; The Marfa Sessions at Ballroom Marfa; and most recently Voice of Coral with Miguel Sbastida at Galveston Art Residency.
Ms. Basha will travel to San Antonio in December 2024 to conduct studio visits with Texas artists in preparation for the Fall 2025 residency. During her trip, she will also present a Curator Talk at Artpace, providing insight into her curatorial approach and her vision for the upcoming residency. The talk, which will take place on December 12, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., is free and open to the public. Learn more about Artpace’s upcoming events via the organization’s website.
