Nasher Public is a public art initiative launched by the museum following the success of its 2020 Nasher Windows series, a response to the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. The initiative supports emerging and established artists through an array of opportunities, including exhibitions in the Nasher’s Public Gallery, which is free of charge and visible through the front windows of the museum, as well as installation opportunities throughout the city of Dallas.

Nasher Public: Eddie Martinez is presented in partnership with Katy Trail Art, an initiative that collaborates with Dallas-area museums, artists, collectors, and communities to bring temporary art to a popular trail in the city. Previously, the museum worked with Katy Trail Art to display works by Sara Cardona, Nic Nicosia, and a collaboration between Jeff Gibbons and Gregory Ruppe.

The two works by Eddie Martinez, Half Stepping Hot Stepper and Untitled, began as assemblage pieces and were cast in bronze and painted. In 2013, when the artist began to make the sculptures, he explained, “A lot of objects I was finding already had their own life. They were already somewhat destroyed and in a unique shape… It was a way to approach sculpture without having to be a sculptor.”

The sculptures will be on view through September 14, 2025. Learn more about Nasher Public and this specific installation via the museum’s website
