The Cedars Union, a Dallas-based nonprofit arts incubator, has opened a call for its fifth cohort of artists.
The organization, which was formed in 2015, operates a 7,000-square-foot building that includes studios and shared workspaces for artists. The affordable studios are leased for an 18-month period through its cohort program. Available studios range in size from 64 square feet to 200 square feet, with a monthly rate of $1.50 per square foot.
Selected artists will have 24/7 access to their studio as well as tools and equipment. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to participate in artist member critiques and to attend programs led by their peers. Other benefits include exhibitions and studio events that bring in curators, collections, and other art enthusiasts, opportunities for professional documentation of artwork, and a shared resources library.
This year’s Cohort jury includes Narong Tintamusik, a Dallas-based artist and curator; Sara Hignite, an independent curator, artist advisor, and cultural strategist; Will Heron, the Artist Liaison at Meow Wolf Grapevine; Tina Medina, an artist, educator, curator, and former Cedars Union Cohort member; and Vicki Meek, a renowned artist, educator, and community advocate.
The Cedars Union will host a virtual information session on Tuesday, October 29, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and an in-person session on Wednesday, October 30, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The deadline to apply to be part of Cohort 5 is Friday, November 15.
