AURORA, a Dallas-based public arts organization known for its work in technology, has announced artists selected for its sixth biennial exhibition, FuturePresentPast.
AURORA was founded in 2010 by artists Shane Pennington and Joshua King and Dallas arts supporter Veletta Forsythe Lill. The inaugural event was a one-night program featuring light, video, and sound art. Since then, the organization has expanded its programming and collaborations, with the biennial exhibition being its signature event.
In a press release, Joshua King, Co-Founder and Executive Director of AURORA, remarked, “For the past fourteen years, AURORA has been dedicated to using technology to create transformative art experiences for over 350,000 people right here in Dallas. Free cultural platforms are more essential than ever for fostering dialogue and engaging communities in global conversations. We’re thrilled to bring everyone together once again to establish the largest free cultural event in Dallas.”
The 2024 biennial is curated by Kendal Henry and Leslie Moody Castro and will take place across Downtown Dallas, with Dallas City Hall serving as an anchor location. The selected artists include Ciara Elle Bryant, Jess Garland, Doug Land, Julie Libersat, Steve Parker, Hector Ramirez, Diana Rojas, Daniel Rozin, Tramaine Townsend, Marina Zurkow, and James Schmitz, nine artists from the Midnight Moment series, and students from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
Ms. Moody Castro told Glasstire, “I love Dallas. I love the arts community and the resilience that people bring to creativity in Dallas, which is a tough city. I am also endlessly proud to be able to collaborate with artists that are truly making change happen, who are committed to their city and their community, and who regularly evaluate what they want their city to be and how to get there. It’s profoundly inspiring and at the end of the day I can also say I hold an enormous amount of gratitude for every single artist that is participating in this edition of the biennial.”
FuturePresentPast will take place on Saturday, November 16, 2024. Learn more about AURORA’s 2024 biennial, via the organization’s website.
