The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (HCCC) has announced the 11 local, national, and international artists in its 2024-2025 residency program, including Texas-based Perata Bradley, Nela Garzon, Gabo Martinez, Preetika Rajgariah, and James Sterling Pitt. See a full list of the residents below.
Established more than two decades ago, the residency offers craft artists time and space to focus on their practice and engage with the public. The program is open to emerging, mid-career, and established artists working in any craft media, including but not limited to clay, fiber, glass, metal, wood, and mixed media.
Residencies can last for a three, six, nine, or twelve-month period. Selected residents receive a $1,000 monthly stipend to support housing and materials, and 24/7 access to a 200-square-foot studio space. During the residency, each artist will have their studio open for at least two days each week to provide opportunities for visitors to observe and ask questions.
HCCC has continued its partnerships with Crafting the Future and the Houston Center for Photography (HCP) to support specific initiatives. Crafting the Future, a nonprofit working to diversify the fields of art, craft, and design, has provided funds for BIPOC artists to receive an additional grant of $500 to $1,000. The collaboration with HCP continues the Interdisciplinary Craft + Photography (ICP) Artist Residency. ICP residents are provided a studio at HCCC and have additional printing and digital lab access at HCP.
