Glasstire counts down the top five art events in Texas.
For last week’s picks, please go here.
1. Concentrique: Laura Bonnefous and Blandine Soulage
Koslov Larsen (Houston)
June 28 – August 23, 2024
From Koslov Larsen:
“Concentrique, a two-person show by Laura Bonnefous and Blandine Soulage, is a poetic dance of color and movement in a global space. Photographed between France, Japan, and Angola, the images in the show reflect the indelibly urban focus of each photographer, both in the ways that they interpret architecture and the people who define its metaphorical landscape.”
2. Bending Light
Women & Their Work (Austin)
July 13 – August 22, 2024
“Bending Light is an exhibition of four Texas-based artists who navigate the intricacies of self discovery through material explorations in light, color, space, and time.
Artists Kaima Marie Akarue, Ciara Elle Bryant, Catherine Martinez, and Chandrika Metivier use light and space as tools to disrupt expectations and illuminate new possibilities of Black futures. Through video, photography, collage, and sculpture, these artists fracture space, diffract light and diffuse energy to interrogate our physical and social surroundings and unchallenged assumptions. The work invites viewers to pause and look closer, bending around preconceived expectations and illuminating the nuanced experiences and collective memories of queerness and femininity in Black cultural production.”
3. ADJACENCY: In and Between from the Permanent Collection
Art Museum of South Texas (Corpus Christi)
July 25, 2024 – January 19, 2025
“The Art Museum of South Texas has just over 2,000 works of art in the permanent collection. The works in the Upper Gallery offer more than one way to be interpreted. Some of the artists in this gallery have had influence on other artists, some of those artists who site that interest, or influence can be seen in Target Texas: Studio Practice located in the Chapman, Keeler and O’Connor galleries.”
4. Hyperlocal IV: The Cedars Union Cohort 4 Exhibition
The Carillon Gallery at TCC South Campus (Fort Worth)
July 25 – August 22, 2024
From the Cedars Union:
“From July 25-August 22, join the Cedars Union in the next iteration of their annual cohort exhibition at Tarrant County College South’s Carillon Gallery. HYPERLOCAL IV is a collection of works from The Cedars Union’s sixteen current artists in residence, Cohort 4. Over the course of the eighteen month residency, these artists have expanded upon their already impressive artistic backgrounds to further develop a diverse and inspiring body of work which intersect a variety of artistic disciplines and include photography, painting, sculpture, printmaking, new media, and more.”
