Earlier this year, McAllen artist Jorge Villarreal launched Casa Caché, an international artist residency program that seeks to support emerging and established artists while creating cultural connections. Mr. Villarreal was inspired to create the program following his solo show at La Fototeca Nacional de Cuba and a residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien through The Contemporary Berlin Residency Program. The inaugural residency, which took place this summer, included German photographers Corina Gertz and Kris Scholz; Cecilia Villaverde, a filmmaker based in Mexico City; and La Bruja de Texcoco, a musician and performer also based in Mexico.

The Winter residency will run from December 1 through 22. Residents will receive a private room and bathroom in a historic home. The space also includes a fully equipped kitchen, storage space, and other communal spaces. During the residency, Casa Caché will promote the artists’ work and organize events such as open studios, private dinners, and studio visits. Artists will also have access to a studio space and a digital print studio, though printing costs are not covered by the residency.

Casa Caché will cover transportation to and from the airport, some meals, and will provide a $750 stipend. Artists are expected to cover their own travel expenses, daily meals, and materials and supplies.

The application deadline is Monday, September 30 at 11:59 p.m. Selected artists will be announced on Friday, October 11.
