Here is Your Schedule for Chinati Weekend

This coming weekend, October 6-8, hundreds of patrons, collectors, artists, and art lovers will descend on the small West Texas town of Marfa for the Chinati Foundation’s annual open house weekend. Featuring new artworks by Bridget Riley and Rosy Keyser, along with guest lectures and discussions, the weekend features a myriad events across the tiny town. Below is just a small sampling of some of the galleries, institutions, and individual artists who will open their doors to the out-of-towners.

Friday, October 6

5-10PM: Made in Marfa: a city-wide event where artists open their studios, galleries open their October exhibitions, and Marfa-based merchants sell their wares. For a map of all participating locations, please go here.

6-8PM: An open studio event for Rosy Keyser, the Chinati Foundation’s September-October artist-in-residence. Location: The Locker Plant.

Saturday, October 7

10AM-3PM: Open, self-guided viewing of La Mansana de Chinati/The Block, Donald Judd’s residence and three main studios.

10AM-3PM: Open, self-guided viewing of the Cobb House and Whyte Building, two of Judd’s downtown studio spaces. The buildings feature permanent installations of Judd’s paintings and reliefs, along with furniture designed by Judd and Rudolf M. Schindler.

10AM-3PM: Open, self-guided viewing of the Chinati Foundation’s permanent collection.

10AM-3PM: Open viewing of Bridget Riley’s new large new multicolored wall painting at the Chinati Foundation’s special exhibitions gallery.

3:30PM: Richard Shiff, the Effie Marie Cain Regents Chair in Art at The University of Texas at Austin, will discuss the work of Bridget Riley. Location: Crowley Theater.

Sunday, October 8

7:30AM-9AM: Open, self-guided early morning viewing of Robert Irwin’s untitled (dawn to dusk), 2016 and Donald Judd’s 100 untitled works in mill aluminum and 15 works in concrete at the Chinati Foundation.

10AM-3PM: Open, self-guided viewing of the Chinati Foundation’s permanent collection.

10AM-3PM: Open viewing of Bridget Riley’s new large new multicolored wall painting at the Chinati Foundation’s special exhibitions gallery.

11AM: Lynne Cooke the Senior Curator of Special Projects in Modern Art at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC will speak about Bridget Riley’s work. Location: Chinati Foundation’s special exhibitions gallery.

2PM: A screening of a film featuring Bridget Riley in conversation with author Michael Bracewell. Location: Crowley Theater.

5PM: Solange Knowles Ferguson will perform at Donald Judd’s untitled 15 works in concrete at the Chinati Foundation.
