The Alamo Beer Company has a new brewery and beer garden in San Antonio not far from the Alamo, in the developing Pearl neighborhood. In tribute, the company has erected a giant Alamo motif on the roof of its main building made up of 256 solar panels.

It’s really big. According to Scientific American, the solar Alamo “installation is expected to produce about 90,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.” And, “To give a sense of the scale – the star in the middle of the design (alas, not a solar panel itself) stands 12 feet tall.”

The panels are made in America, are expected to last at least 30 years, and should start paying for themselves within five years. And: “The solar array’s design was envisioned by One80 Solar, a commercial solar panel company headquartered in San Antonio.”
