Grace Museum Adopts Friends Program

by Lucia Simek May 7, 2014

Grace-Friends-SliderGrace Museum in Abilene will be the first pilot museum to implement the Friends program that the Dallas Museum of Art initiated in January 2013. Friends is a free program that “seeks to expand and deepen visitor connections to the Museum” by tracking the way vistiors use the museum after they have signed up for the program. Friends can earn “badges” that are redeemable for a variety of rewards, like museum discounts and access to special programs in honor of their “achievement.”

“By increasing access and emphasizing participation,” said DMA director Max Anderson recently about the program, ” we are enhancing the DMA’s role as a cultural convener in our city.”  Apart from growing culture, as the museum is able to grow foot traffic they are also able to grow donations and build a database “that can be mined for valuable information about its audience.”

Other museums are also soon to take up the program: Denver Art Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Minneapolis Institute of Art.

Grace Museum will celebrate the new program by hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony this Thursday, May 8 at 11:30 am, after which you can sign up for the Friends program and take a tour of the Museum’s latest exhibit Home on the Range, with Chief Curator, Judy Deaton.

The ‘valuable’ in the last quote is meant quite literally, no?

I don’t think I care to be a valuable friend.
